About Me

My name is Joanna.

I am 35 years old.  I am married to a pilot, and a mother of two beautiful children.  Ben is 6 and Cecilia (aka Cici) is 4.  I work outside of the home, and I volunteer at a Children's Hospital.

My quest to eating healthy began after watching Food Inc years ago. I then starting reading books like Eat to Live and Forks Over Knives.  I also look at websites like World's Healthiest Foods.  All of this learning has made me understand that we are what we eat, and a properly nourished body will work FOR you.  I have read books by Joel Fuhrman, T. Colin Campbell, and Mikhail Tombak.  With each book I read, I get more passionate about wellness and believe that you truly "are what you eat."

We are mostly vegetarian in our house, however I do prepare one meat dish a week.  I don't restrict our kids diet outside of our home.  I believe that life is about balance, so I don't pretend that I eat healthy 100% of the time.  I try my best to prepare foods that are nutritious and appealing to kids.  I also try to make my meals quickly, since I don't like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

I can say that I have been blessed with not having to worry about my weight.  There were periods in my life where I was heavier, like in college volleyball season (170 pounds) and pregnancy (210 pounds).  But, when I focus on my food, I am comfortably around 155-160 pounds.  I am 6'1".  I wear a size 6/8.

I don't eat the way I do to keep slim.  I eat the way I do because I want to nourish my body.  When you mentality switches from what calories you are eating, to what nutrients and minerals you are eating, I swear you look at food differently.  And with that mindset comes the thinking of how food affects your body.  Case in point, a donut sure does taste good, but you feel like shit 30 minutes after eating it.  Once you realize what food does to you, you stay away from certain foods because you know the after effects will not be worth it.

The goal of this blog is to be a quick reference for quick moms (and dads) to prepare simple, quick, and nutritious meals for your family.  You can do it!  Don't use excuses when preparing a meal.  With planning and the right mindset, you can prepare meals that your kids will like and that are good for them!

I am glad you found my blog, and I hope you keep coming back.  I have grown so passionate about this within the last year, and I am thrilled to share this all with you!
